hip pain treatment options

IPI works closely with you to determine the best possible treatment options for your condition, personal needs and lifestyle. Whenever possible, we emphasize conservative, non-invasive treatment methods to manage and treat hip pain. When necessary, we provide the latest techniques in hip surgery.

Intra-articular Joint Injections

An intrathecal pump or a “pain pump” is a device that delivers small quantities of pain medication such as morphine or baclofen, directly to the spinal fluid. When delivered in small doses, pain medications may minimize the side effects often experienced with larger oral doses of the same medications.

A pump can lessen the pain associated with failed back surgery, cancer, or nerve pain. It can also reduce spasticity, or muscle rigidity, in patients with:

  • Cerebral palsy
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Stroke
  • Brain injury
  • Spinal cord injury

A trial intrathecal injection or a temporary intrathecal pump is usually performed to determine whether the medication is effective and a permanent pump is appropriate.

Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy is a complementary treatment for muscle and joint pain. The treatment involves repeated injections of an irritant solution into part of a joint — the joint’s interior, for example, or a supporting tendon or ligament. The irritant, usually a sugar solution, is thought to trigger growth in the connective tissue of the joint, eventually leading to reduced pain. Platelet Rich Therapy

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is an advanced treatment that can help repair and regenerate injured soft tissue and reduce pain. Multiple published scientific studies have confirmed the effectiveness of this therapy, and thousands of patients – including professional athletes – have benefited from PRP injections. PRP therapy may be an alternative to surgery. Ask for a consultation on your specific chronic pain case by contacting Interventional Pain Institute (IPI) at (229) 405-2470.

Stem Cell

Adult stem cell therapy can effectively treat many conditions ranging from degenerative arthritis to ligament and tendon injuries. Stem cell therapy at IPI may alleviate not only chronic pain but also dysfunction from arthritis and chronic injuries.

Dr. Fussell uses embryonic stem cells. These stem cells help to repair and regenerate wounded tissue. The procedure involves minimally invasive bone marrow extraction and image-guided injections to precisely target areas of injured tissue.
